Auto Insurance Provider - Tips When Filing A Claim With One

by Vilma Maki

If you're involved in an auto accident on the road, you may need to file a claim with your insurance provider. In that case, here are some things you'll want to do right away.

Avoid Repairs Until the Adjuster Performs an Assessment

After a wreck, your first inclination may be to have your vehicle repaired as quickly as possible. You want to hold off on this though because an insurance adjuster needs to see the vehicle in its current condition after the accident.

They can then properly document the amount of damage that's present. This is key in figuring out how much compensation your claim is worth.

Just make an appointment with an insurance adjuster that represents your provider and then give them time to properly assess your vehicle. Then once they give you the green light, you can perform whatever repairs are necessary.

Report Accident to Provider Promptly

After an auto accident, you need to make sure you report it to your insurance provider. You want to do this quickly because it will make it easier to remember details about the accident. It will also speed up your claim so you can get money quickly for repairs that are necessary.

You just need to tell them what happened from your perspective and provide helpful details that you can remember, such as when you were hit, where, and how. Then your provider can take the necessary steps to move your claim along, so you don't have to wait too long for a payout.

Let Body Shop Negotiate With the Insurance Provider

If the amount you're given to repair your vehicle after an accident isn't enough, then it's important to have compensation adjusted so that you can take care of what you need to. You'll just want to let your body shop coordinate with your insurance provider.

If the repairs cost more than the provider originally thought, the body shop can show how much more is needed with concrete figures.  Then the provider should give you more money for what you're entitled to, making the auto accident easier to deal with financially.

If you're ever involved in a wreck and need to use your insurance, it's important to carefully approach the claims process with your provider. As long as you take your time and do the right things, you can trust you'll get enough money for repairs and then move on with your life quickly.

About Me

Understanding Insurance Terminology

After we purchased our first home, we realized that it might be a good idea to evaluate our insurance coverage. Although we had purchased homeowners insurance before, we had never owned a policy as large as the one we would need for our new place. Also, our new home had a trampoline and a swimming pool, which made us worried about liability. To iron out the details, I decided to meet with our insurance agent. We talked about things like monthly premiums, coverage limits, and deductibles, and it was incredible to learn more about the terminology. This blog is designed to help you with the same types of questions.
